Learn from My Productivity Journey to Figure Out What will Work for You
I read a lot of books about productivity and deep work. Took a lot of online courses. I even joined different accountability groups and discussions. After months of trial and error, here are what led me to do more productive work.
Find a Community, Learn & Act
I transitioned from working for someone to working for myself just before the pandemic. When everyone else quarantined and transferred to virtual workspaces, I found myself alone.
It was only when I went out to find communities of entrepreneurs when I started relevant work. So get out and find people you want to learn with.
I applied and expanded whatever my entrepreneur group study that week. There was a time when we talked about elevator speeches. I expanded it into a web page explaining what I can do to solve a problem. That page helped me land a grant from Schools 4.0 called New Normal Fellowship.
Coaches and Deadlines
The fellowship gave me seed funds to create my proposed project called Math Toolbox. They also assigned coaches to help me do the work. Still, it was hard for me to work consistently.
The deadlines and virtual coaching helped me finish but something is still missing. I do not want to work at the last minute but that was what I did.
Virtual Co-working Crowd and Consistency
In order to finish the fellowship project on time, I joined a women’s virtual co-working crowd. It’s like co-working space but done via zoom. We declare what we will do then work with our cameras on for two hours. It worked! It made me consistently work starting 9AM everyday. It jumpstarted my working brain and helped me work even after the zoom call.
Co-working was the next step in my productivity journey, yet something else was missing.
Writing Cohort and Me
When I joined Ship 30 by 30, I found my missing piece. The virtual co-working group gave me consistency. The writing cohort gave me back myself. You see, I used to write consistently before. It helps me organize my thoughts. When I joined the writing group, it dug out my hidden self again.
Productivity is a journey to yourself. When you dig inward, you will outwardly produce more. It is now easier for me to produce meaningful work.
This is my roadmap to productivity. Yours might be similar as long as you look within too.
